Not enough love

She is beautiful and much-loved so why does she harm herself? It is hard to understand. She is scarred so badly – covered in unnatural self-inflicted wounds: livid red bleeding scars.
From any high-point you can see them. They criss-cross her surface. Lacerations carved through her virgin forests. Ugly excavations of her once-pristine rivers. A mutilated landscape.
Her broken heart in Kathmandu is bleeding, breathing and breeding filth. Everywhere there are discarded bottles – water swallowed down by people scared to drink from her natural sources any more. Who knows what her groundwater harbours these days. Waterways are choked with solid and not-so-solid waste: slicks of filth and plastics. Her breath is tainted too. Where is her fresh mountain air and snowfed waters?
Why is Nepal destroying herself, self-harming? Why do her people not love her enough to stop ravaging one so very, very beautiful?
